ERICK RUDOLPH RUNS TO THIRD PLACE FINISH AT DUNN TIRE RACEWAY PARK ALONG WITH CAREER BEST SEVENTH AT RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY
Erick Rudolph put together another top finish at Dunn Tire Raceway
Park last Saturday night, finishing third in the 30 lap Modified
feature. In the three Modified events that DTRP has run thus far into
the 2009 campaign, Erick has a victory and a pair of third place
showings. Erick is pleased with his season so far at DTRP but is
looking to do better.
"I'm happy but we would've liked to come up with another win,"
said Erick last Sunday afternoon in a telephone discussion. "We've got
several chances in the next few weeks for more victories at DTRP. We'll
be ready when we go back there this Saturday night.
Erick's qualifying run at DTRP last Saturday put him in the redraw
position where he pulled the seventh starting position for the 50 lap
event. He got behind some slower moving traffic which hamped his effort
to move up in the field. He slipped into third place by the halfway
point of the race and that would be it for the Wilson (NY) High School
junior.
"The car was a little tighter than what I wanted. It really
affected me when I was trying to pass someone. If I could've started a
little father towards the front, I might've had a better chance of
winning."
"It was a third place running car."
The defending Dunn Tire Raceway Park Modified champion is in a
tight points battle with last Saturday night's winner Sege Fidanza for
the Modified points chase.
Erick grabbed a career best seventh place finish at Ransomville
Speedway in the track's DIRTcar358 Modified division last Friday night.
It all comes down to getting seat time for the teenage driving
star.
"I'm becoming better accustomed to the ride. I'm trying more
things with the car."
It continues to be a learning process for Erick, who will not make
his next start in the car until Friday, July 3rd. It will also be his
first extra distrance event in the H & H Motorsports Troyer Chassis
when the Super DIRTcar Modified Series 100 lap event comes to the
Niagara County based oval.
The next step for the hometown Ransomville, NY driver would be to
get into the top five. Erick was as high as sixth two weeks ago before
falling back to tenth at the finish.
Crew chief Charlie Rudolph takes no credit for the improved
Ransomville Speedway effort.
"It's all Erick. He's just getting better with the car every week."
In addition to his fourth start of the season at Dunn Tire Raceway
Park this Saturday, Erick will make his first visit of the season at
the Spencer Speedway this Friday night. The 75 lap main will be the
second event on the 2009 Race of Champions Modified Series. Erick ran
Spencer twice last season and is looking to improve on his performance.
"We were fast in both races but had no luck. In the NASCAR Whelen
Modified Tour event the clutch failed. In the RoC race, I lost the
steering pump. We're going in there with a winning attitude."
Erick will make a return appearence to Spencer Speedway on
Saturday July 11th for a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.
Erick has one career Race of Champions Modified Series victory at
the Wyoming County International Speedway in August 2007.
